    That brings back some memories i worked on that i was one of the joiners on the shuttering
    We stayed in temporary accommodation on site and in two retired liners moored in the loch i cant remember the name of them

    The SS Rangatira was one of them, not sure of the other. She was later used as an accommodation ship at Sullom Voe and in the Falklands as well.

    Edit to add: the other ship was the Odysseus IMO 5372563, built in 1937 as the MV Leinster for British & Irish Steam Packet Co. Remarkable that the MV was built in 1937 and the SS in 1970! The superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand must have been a dyed in the wool steam fanatic to order a new steamship in 1969!

    I don't know about unsuccessful but she was surely out of her time; most ferry operators were disposing of steam ships by 1969, not ordering new ones!
