Yarrow-built paddle steamer Myat Yadana - At risk ?

A correspondent of mine has just returned from Burma, where there remained one operational paddle steamer out of a fleet which once numbered hundreds

Myat Yadana was built at Yarrows, Glasgow in 1948 for the Irrawaddy River fleet as PS Minthamee. She was thought to be in operation when another correspondent visited in 2013, but new photos tell a different story and a local source is reported to have said that she is "broken"

She now appears only to float at high water on the enormous Asian river

It would appear that she is definitely at risk, but one saving grace is that the funnel has been covered to limit the ingress of rainfall

A White Knight needed, I suspect. Click here to go to my web page with a selection of up-to-date photos of the vessel

A certain lady who tried to rescue a paddler in this country, which was wrecked and beyond any hope of reconstruction, may be interested.
    Bit far to travel though!
