Action needed NOW to save iconic Grimsby trawler the Ross Tiger

ACTION must be taken to save the Ross Tiger which could be lost in five years if “something is not done now”.

The famous fishing boat – built in 1957 as part of the Ross Trawler Group – is the last of Great Grimsby’s side trawlers.

At present, she is moored alongside the Fishing Heritage Centre and is an integral part of the centre’s attraction, drawing in more than 80,000 visitors a year from all over the world.

But a recent ultrasound report has shown her hull is thinning and is covered in mussels.

What a surprise. We were all stating this 5 years ago when the Lincoln Castle was being destroyed but no...

I think yet again, it's too late. It's gonna involve a hell of a lot of money just to get her onto a dry dock and the repairs will cost a bomb as well. Given Grimsby's track record, the omens are not good.

Whatever happened to the supposed regeneration scheme of that whole area that was being planned and talked about 5 years ago? NOTHING. The whole area looks as decrepit and worse than ever.

Unbelievable. Er... no... it's Grimsby, so it's too believable. Action needed NOW to save iconic Grimsby trawler the Ross Tiger

Tonight over at the Grimsby Telegraph...

    http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/Fu...ail/story.html

THE future of The Ross Tiger trawler berthed at Fishermen's Wharf, Riverhead will be secured.

That was the pledge given to members of North East Lincolnshire Council scrutiny panel for culture and tourism.

Members heard talks with owner Associated British Ports were at "advanced stages" and they had renewed their pledge to protect the vessel which is a centrepiece of the Fishing Heritage Centre.

A survey has revealed no immediate concerns for the state of the boat, but ABP have strongly recommended that it is placed in dry dock at the site to protect its future for future generations.

I have my doubts about the "survey" since it's looking a little too perilous to me for comfort. In other words, they're just gonna dither and let it get worse.

I hope I'll be proved wrong.

Fears for future of Grimsby's iconic Ross Tiger trawler
THE future of Grimsby's iconic trawler Ross Tiger has been thrown into question after the woman put in charge of preserving it left her role.

A spokesperson for North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) has confirmed Sue Marshall has "left the employment" of the authority.

She had been employed as the council's tourism and operations manager and was responsible for Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre. http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/fe...ail/story.html

Ominous news that I suspect will hasten the inevitable. Yet again no mention of the Esther or what they propose to do about that. I also noticed the other day that the "redevelopment" scheme for Alexandra Dock is being considered again. That was allegedly one of the reasons why the Lincoln Castle was demolished since the developers insisted she was "an eyesore", she was removed off the face of the earth and the development scheme never happened. Whatever happens, the future of the Ross Tiger is not looking favourable not helped by ABP's systematic demolition of Grimsby Docks. NELC and ABP clearly have zero interest in history or heritage which sinks Grimsby further into the doldrums.

How about guessing that NE£incs Council's hoping the 'Tiger''ll fall over to starboard on the slope and squash to nothing what's left of the 'Esther'? ...No. Can't be. The ability of that gang to educe but a single correlate is so patently obvious from previous 'performance' that any sign of cause and effect has to be down to chance and probability!

Incidentally, in that vein, the destruction of the p.s. 'Lincoln Castle' was magnificently preceded by multiple, large-scale, photographic and graphic representations of the vessel in two massive Council 'Master Plans'* for the Alexandra-Dk South-Arm Area -- neitherc of which came to fruition, of course.

*Master Plans? ANYBODY with two brain cells to rub together should by now be aware that 'Master Plan' is Grimland Council-ese for Claptrapping Codswallop -- presaging total destruction of the area as we know it, to be left as a permanent wasteland: a.k.a. 'development area'.

Re: Action needed NOW to save iconic Grimsby trawler the Ross Tiger

GRIMSBY'S iconic Ross Tiger trawler is being closely monitored as plans are put in motion to relocate and restore her. Concerns over the future of Grimsby's last surviving side trawler were made at a meeting of North East Lincolnshire Council's tourism, leisure and culture scrutiny panel meeting. Chairman Councillor David Hasthorpe said: "We must keep an eye on Ross Tiger. It can't stay as it is. We need to be on top of it. We don't want to lose her." Following checks of Ross Tiger by a marine surveyor, it was indicated that the ship needed restoration, especially on the deck area.
